Anthony Davis Secures Richest Yearly Extension, Joining Elite Ranks

The extension becomes the wealthiest yearly agreement in league history, with an average value of $62 million each season, exceeding the average of $60.8 million per season that Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown received last month as part of his five-year supermax deal for up to $304 million.

Davis was the NBA’s 75th-anniversary squad after being an eight-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA selection. He is coming off a season in which he averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on a career-high 56% shooting – figures that mark one of his greatest seasons.

Lakers Journey Extended: Contract Breakdown and Impact for Anthony Davis

The agreement goes into force with the 2025-26 season. Davis will earn around $40.6 million

this season, followed by $43.2 million in 2024-25 — before the agreement kicks in and runs through 2027-28. It will bring Davis’ lifetime on-court earnings to almost $500 million by the time the contract expires, and he’ll earn around $750,000 for each regular-season game on the Lakers’ schedule in the last three years of the pact.

The Lakers are 117-77 (.603) in regular-season games Davis has played in his four seasons with the team; they are 53-60 (.469 winning percentage) in the 113 games he has missed.

When both are healthy, he and LeBron James are one of the NBA’s most formidable 1-2 punches. They helped the Lakers win the 2020 NBA championship and reach the Western Conference finals this season, where eventual winner Denver swept them.

Aiming for Championship Glory Amidst Historic Milestones of the Center Superstar of Lakers

Davis noted at the close of last season, “We are trending in the right direction.” “Of course, we wanted to go all the way and win a championship; we weren’t satisfied with being contenders. This, then, is the aim. That’s the target every time we hit the floor for training camp, and it will be again next year.

Davis has averaged 24 points and 10.4 rebounds in his first 11 seasons. Five times in his career, not counting his 52 in the 2017 All-Star Game (a record that stood until Boston’s Jayson Tatum scored 55 in the All-Star Game in February of this year), he has scored at least 50 points in a game.
